A recently-published paper by three TRU staff and faculty members explores the benefits of service-learning – a pedagogy which integrates curriculum and volunteer service – for postsecondary English-as-an-additional-language students in a Canadian context. The paper, authored by Heather Wisla (International, Graduate and Disability Student Support Coordinator in the Faculty of Law), Wendy Krauza (Senior Lecturer in the English as a Second Language [ESL] Department, Faculty of Education and Social Work), and Dr. Jim Hu (Associate Professor in the ESL Department) appears in the BC Teal Journal and is entitled, “Service-Learning: Boldly Going Where EAL Students Haven’t Gone Before.” Click here to read the full paper, which posits that service-learning is an effective pedagogy for EAL students.
