Dear TRU Community,
With the new semester quickly approaching many campus renovations are winding up including an extensive redesign of the Admissions and Advising area. We look forward to starting the new term with a bright and welcoming space for students and staff in BMO Student Street.
As Facilities and contractors complete dozens of projects across campus this summer, you may notice one that is getting underway. Two multi-sport playing surfaces are being installed on the Campus Green just outside of Old Main. The surfaces are expected to be ready for play by mid-September. The courts will be marked for pickleball, basketball, volleyball and ball hockey. A grass volleyball court is also being installed.
We’re building these recreation facilities to respond to student demand for more places to play. TRU has not added new recreation facilities to its campus since the Tournament Capital Centre was opened in 2007 and the university has evolved and grown significantly since that time. While the primary goals of these new facilities is to provide a high-quality recreational outlet for the TRU community (students, faculty and staff), it is hoped that they will provide an additional venue for sports camps and for the residents and families of future Community Trust developments.
Primarily the courts will be available on a first-come first-served basis but at times they will also be scheduled through TRU Athletics for specific events and academic programming. More details on that to follow, so stay tuned.
With regard to the trees that currently reside in that space, they will be relocated to other areas on campus.
Let the games begin!
Sincerely,
Matt Milovick, Vice-President, Administration and Finance
Warren Asuchak, Director Facilities
Ken Olynyk, Director Athletics
