November 14, 2013 TRU alumni & friends, in partnership with the School of Business and Economics ran one of the premier events of the school year combining an outstanding ‘Networking 411’ mentorship event with an alumni & friends mixer to follow.

The event saw, at its peak, 150 students networking with 22 career mentors made up of a select group of alumni & friends.  To onlookers, this looks like a room full of speed daters, only instead of meeting potential mates, students meet with successful graduates, mentors and potential employers. Professionals from all industries across the business field were on hand to dole out career advice, resume tips and provide a prospective on employment after graduation.

“This is a fabulous event, and we are so excited to see such a great turn out and have so many students take part and take advantage of these mentors,” said Arlene Olynyk, Alumni Officer.

Following the career mentoring portion of the evening, another 35 SoBE alumni & friends joined the group for an alumni mixer and feature presentation.

Guest of honour and professional speaker Janice Otremba took the stage for a 20 minute presentation on “Becoming an Eleva “TOUR” and how to give a hard hitting pitch about oneself. In an exciting and hilarious presentation, Otremba wowed the crowd with her wit while remaining informative; everyone in the room took home at least a piece of information.

This event really highlighted the exciting partnerships that the University has with business and professionals’ spanning the City and it is great to showcase this and provide the students with amazing access to information that they might now receive otherwise.

Overall, this was an exciting event and huge kudos must go out to the School of Business and Economics who helped make this event successful.
