The Alumni and Friends Association and Career Education Department are once again joining forces to connect current university students with mentors through the hugely successful Networking 411.

Similar to speed dating, the speed networking format of Networking 411 gives students the opportunity to meet 5 to 7 professionals in 90 minutes who discuss their experiences and careers responsibilities. It is an educational hands-on career event to help students overcome their inhibitions surrounding networking and mentoring relationships while illustrating the benefits of asking questions to enhance their career understanding.

“We are also hoping to illustrate that the relationships developed through networking situations are lifelong contacts and vital in enhancing career success,” said Susan Forseille, co-organizer of Networking 411 and chair of the Career Education Department.

The pathway to a great career is not always direct Networking 411 illustrates the sheer variety of career opportunities and the many alternative ways to get there.

WHEN
The first session is scheduled for Oct. 23 in the Grand Hall of the Campus Activity Centre and runs from 4:30-6:30pm.

WHY
It is a great opportunity for those interested in helping students and to develop their own network by volunteering to answer student’s questions pertaining to career. TRU students are keen to hear about career experiences and gain valuable advice.

“Our career mentors are not only alumni, they are professionals from many industries and businesses that are looking to give some insight to students to help them along with their education and careers,” says Forseille.
