If building the university brand is based on the success of students, Thompson Rivers University is fast becoming one of the best, according to a recent survey released by BC Statistics. TRU graduates are more satisfied with their education, have higher employment rates, and are very satisfied with their careers and the skills and knowledge they acquired at the university.

“With employment rates of 98 per cent and high satisfaction ratings for written communication skills and critical analysis, TRU graduates are clearly being valued by employers who look for individuals that excel in group collaboration and problem resolution,” said Josh Keller, TRU Director of Student Recruitment.

“For the first time we also have responses from graduates of our Open Learning programs and we are pleased to learn that they are indicating 100 per cent satisfaction with their program and 97 per cent with skills developed to assist independent learning.”

The University Baccalaureate Graduates Survey (UBGS), designed by the University Presidents Council of BC and now administered by BC Statistics, provides information two years after graduation on baccalaureate degree graduates from fifteen BC provincial institutions, including the university sector that’s comprised of TRU, UBC, SFU, UVIC, UNBC, and Royal Road University. The survey provides information on the graduates’ further education, employment and occupations, current job earnings, financing of university education, and satisfaction with their education. Fifty-four per cent of the degree graduates from 2006 responded to this survey.

TRU baccalaureate graduates felt the most important knowledge they acquired was that of global and local issue interaction, and that their knowledge of global issues was the best developed. Overall, 92 per cent of respondents agreed that their core program at TRU provided a full understanding of their field of study.
