The Chancellor of Thompson Rivers University, Nancy Greene Raine, was one of three BC representatives named to the Senate by Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday, December 22, 2008.
Known around the world as Canada’s championship skier, Nancy Greene Raine won gold and silver medals in alpine skiing at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and overall World Cup titles in 1967 and 1968. Nancy went on to play a key role in the development of the Whistler/Blackcomb ski resort, before becoming the director of skiing at the Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops. Nancy was named Canada’s female athlete of the century in 1999, and was installed as the first Chancellor of Thompson Rivers University in 2005.
“We are extremely proud of Nancy ” this is an outstanding accomplishment” said Josh Keller, TRU Director of Marketing and Communications. “She has been an outstanding ambassador and very proud advocate for the university since becoming our Chancellor, and we look forward to having her continue to spread the word about TRU in her new role in Ottawa.”
