UCC Awards Contract For Construction Of New International Building

KAMLOOPS – UCC is pleased to announce that the contract for theconstruction of the new International Building at UCC has been awardedto D & T Developments Ltd. of Kamloops. The local company was thesuccessful bidder, coming in at $8.3 million (taxes included), withinthe budget of the original business for the project.

As the general contractor for the project, D & T will also be usingnumerous local firms for sub trades and construction will beginimmediately on the 50,000-sqare-foot, three storey building. Theproject, completely self-financed by UCC through internationaloperations, is scheduled for completion by fall of 2004 with no impacton existing operations around campus over the next 12 months.

Situated in the heart of the Kamloops campus, on the north side of thecampus commons between the Arts & Education Building and Old Main, thenew facility will include meeting rooms, the administrative offices for UCC International, classrooms, high tech case rooms, as well as anInternet cafe and student lounge areas.

The new facility will provide enough space to accommodate another 1,200FTE spaces. The roof of the building, one of its most unique features,will have a new observatory for astronomy classes along with a viewingdeck for telescopes.
