KAMLOOPS-For the first time in the 31 years the BC High School Mathematics Contest has been held, two brothers have taken top place in the junior and senior finals.

Drew and Scott Hegadoren, Norkam Secondary students in Grade 10 and 12 respectively, walked off with first place in their categories in the contest last Friday.

‘We’ve had students from the same family place in the contest before,” said co-organizer John Siggers of UCC, “but we’ve never had the two first-place winners from the same family in the same year.”

Each year, the UCC Mathematics Department is responsible for the organization of the B.C. High School Mathematics Contest in Kamloops and the surrounding area, which includes Merritt, Ashcroft, 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Barriere and Clearwater. On March 10, 350 students participated in the Preliminary Round of the B.C. Mathematics Contest, with the top students in each school then invited to write the Final Round at UCC on May 7.
