Summary
My research goals focus on developing human-centered, trustworthy, and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that address real-world challenges in healthcare, accessibility, defence and security, environmental sustainability, and Indigenous communities. My research integrates AI, machine learning, computer vision, Internet of Things (IoT), and large language models (LLMs) to develop practical, privacy-preserving, and resource-efficient intelligent systems. Key priorities include AI-assisted healthcare and medical imaging, assistive technologies for people with visual impairments, secure and locally deployable AI, wildfire monitoring and resilience, and the responsible use of AI in addressing emerging societal challenges. I aim to advance both fundamental research and real-world applications through interdisciplinary collaboration, industry and community partnerships, student mentorship, and knowledge mobilization, with a strong emphasis on ethical AI, accessibility, and measurable societal impact.
