Winners announced for 36th Annual BC Secondary Schools Mathematics Contest

Sixty students from 10 schools in districts 73 and 27 participated in the final round of the 36th annual BC Secondary Schools Mathematics Contest for the Cariboo/Thompson/Nicola region.

Held at Thompson Rivers University, the event was hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The top seniors, Craig St. Jean, Grade 11 from South Kamloops Secondary, Samuel Redl, Grade 12, Williams Lake Secondary and Jordan Crosina, Grade 12, Columneetza Secondary in Williams Lake took home TRU scholarships of $600, $400 and $200 each, respectively, along with book prizes.

The top juniors, Stephan Bouthot, Grade 10 from South Kamloops Secondary, Keith Rollans, Grade 10 Sa-Hali Secondary and Go Yasui, Grade 8, Sa-Hali Secondary were also awarded book prizes.

Two hundred and sixty-five students participated in the preliminary round on March 5.

The final competition included Dr. Lee Keener from UNBC a guest speaker for the students, and Dr. Suzanne Feldberg from TRU who addressed the 10 teachers that accompanied their students.
