Alan Shaver, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) President and Vice-Chancellor, announced that Scotiabank has donated $150,000 towards awards and bursaries for domestic, international and Aboriginal students in the School of Business and Economics, who are enrolled in entrepreneurial courses and programs.
A total of nine annual awards will be given out each year for five years, ranging in value from $3,000 to $6,000. Starting this fall, Scotiabank will award students in the following programs:
- Three awards of $3,000 each to students majoring in New Venture Creation (Entrepreneurship) within the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma (PBD) programs.
- Three awards of $3,000 each to students who are currently enrolled in the Small Business Management course within the BBA.
- Two $3,000 bursaries to students majoring or minoring in New Venture Creation (Entrepreneurship) within the BBA and the PBD programs.
- A $6,000 award to a student majoring in New Venture Creation (Entrepreneurship) within the BBA or the PBD, who submits a winning business plan.
“These terrific awards not only recognize deserving students in the School of Business and Economics, our most intercultural faculty, but also increase student success, intercultural understanding and entrepreneurial capacity in the region, three of our important strategic priorities,” said Shaver at the “Celebrate Our University” event hosted by Les Consenheim, Senior Wealth Advisor–ScotiaMcLeod, at Hotel 540 in downtown Kamloops on Sept. 10, 2015.
“Scotiabank’s focus on education provides support to students in recognition of their academic excellence,” says Kevin Rains, Branch Manager, Kamloops Branch at Scotiabank. “Scotiabank is investing in young people by supporting Thompson Rivers University and contributing to the success of nine award recipients as they pursue their studies in entrepreneurship.”
