EQuilibrium Green Dream Home

Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior and Thompson Rivers University School of Trades received a special award for Visionary Achievement in Sustainable Construction for their Green Dream Home EQuilibrium™ Demonstration House initiative with CMHC at the recent Built Green™ Awards Ceremony in Vancouver.

Accepting on behalf of the CHBA CI and TRU Partnership were Brian Hayashi, 1st Vice President of CHBA CI and the project manager of the EQ House and Hank Bangma the TRU Trades Instructor who worked with the students to build the house.

“This was truly a collaborative effort of both our Local Association members and various departments of the Thompson Rivers University,” said Darryl Caunt, CHBA CI President. “It was an ambitious undertaking and we are very happy with the performance of the house as a net zero home so far. Once a family is actually living in the house we will have a better idea as to how energy efficient the home is.”

“It is wonderful to have the partnership acknowledged in this way”, added Lindsay Langill, Dean of the School of Trades and Technology. “It is our aim to educate our students so that they have the skills to join the workforce right away once they have completed their courses. This project gave them an exceptional experience to add to their skills portfolio.”

Winners of the Built Green™ BC awards were announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony September 17, 2010 at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver.
