Shane Philip, the multi-instrument musician and one-man-band from Quadra Island (BC), kicked off the 2010-11 edition of the TRU Cultural Events series on Sept. 16, 2010.
Playing tracks from his three CDs and cuts from another to be released around Christmas, Philip mesmerized the audience with his musicianship and athletic stamina as he often in the same song, played drums, the didgeridoo, slide guitar and sang. He has been likened to Xavier Rudd for his vocals and playing of the didgeridoo and to Jack Johnson for his vocal phrasing.
The spirited & lively event was held at the TRU Alumni Theatre in the Clock Tower building.

Shane Philip wrapped up his show by inviting audience members to lie on the stage and feel the vibrations of the didgeridoo. The lights were extinguished for a couple of minutes.

October 21 — The Human Statues — Jeff and Zach, aka The Human Statues, have set out to “spread jubilation around the nation.” Their blend of folk/pop catchy melodies and clever lyrics delivered with brilliant harmonies and great choreography will have you dancing in your seat, and humming tunes for days. It’s the Beatles meets the Jackson5 meets Flight of the Conchords.
November 25 — Keri Lynn Zwicker — Take pretty much everything you thought you knew about harp music and toss it out the window! This is the harp as you’ve never heard it: Folk, Celtic and Latin music, engaging arrangements, imaginatively played, often with vocals as well. Keri Lynn’s performance is full of charm and energy and wit. She call herself the “harpchick” – what else do we need to say?
