Diane Purvey, Education

In August 2009 Diane Purvey’s new book, co-written with former TRU faculty member John Belshaw, was published. “Private Grief, Public Mourning: The Rise of the Roadside Shrine in BC” (Anvil Press) examines the phenomenon of roadside shrines within the context of the historical practices of memorialization in BC. As well as book launches in Kamloops, Vancouver, and Campbell River, Purvey and Belshaw have just returned from giving a public lecture at Carleton University in Ottawa (the Shannon Lecture Series in History) entitled “Road Warriors and Teen Angels: Deathscapes of Youth
in BC.”
