Dr. Kim Calder Stegemann, who retired from the School of Education (Faculty of Education and Social Work) in June 2017 after a remarkable 22-year career, has been designated Professor Emerita and was recognized at the Fall 2017 convocation ceremony on October 13. Retirement certainly hasn’t slowed Calder Stegemann’s pace: since June, she has taught two condensed courses at the University of Cologne (Humanwissenschaftliche Fakultät), Mind, Brain, and Education: An Introduction to Educational Neuroscience and Educational Inclusion; received an invitation to be guest editor for a special issue of Learning Disabilities: A Contemporary Journal, titled “Education for Children with Learning Challenges” (Spring 2018); begun a new role as Mental Health Consultant for Rotary District #5060, Youth Exchange Committee, to provide education and support for exchange students, host-families, and Youth Exchange Officers from August 2017 to August 2018; returned to private practice and opened the Brainwave Centre for Education and Therapy, where she is the principal psychotherapist conducting psychotherapy, neurotherapy, and educational interventions to improve brain functioning and overall wellness; and presented a workshop for Insight Support Services (for children and youth living with autism) on reading comprehension strategies. Congratulations to Dr. Calder Stegemann on this vital new stage of her career.
