BDC E-Spirit Competition coming to TRU

Aboriginal high school students from across Canada will be at Thompson Rivers University for the 13th edition of the Business Development Bank (BDC) E-Spirit Business Plan Competition. The competition runs May 14-16, 2013, and in all, there will be 35 teams from 17 different schools.

BDC E-Spirit is a 16-week Internet-based business plan competition providing Aboriginal students in grades 10 through 12 with interactive business planning resources, online access to mentoring, and extensive networking opportunities.

“We are pleased to be able to welcome these students from across Canada to our campus,” said Alan Shaver, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor. “TRU is a great supporter of Aboriginal business education and we are proud to host the competition’s tradeshow and presentation rounds.”

wilson Neapew, National Director, Aboriginal Banking Unit at BDC, said E-spirit is an important first step for fledgling entrepreneurs.

“BDC E-Spirit gives students a first taste of the business world,” said Wilson. “Throughout the competition, participants get to put entrepreneurship principles into practice, collaborate with peers in an intense, team environment, and gain hands-on leadership experience.”
