THE TRU TEAM
The TRU team, including Julia Marks, fourth year Journalism student; Harold Richins, Dean of the Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism; Dan Erickson, IT Client Services; and Hugh MacInnes, Legal Affairs, was proud to be able to be a part of the recent 17th annual Telus Nancy Greene Corporate Challenge at Sun Peaks.

For the second year in a row, the TRU Team achieved a third place (Bronze medal) out of the 22 competing teams in the Sport Division.

Julia Marks achieved first place in the Ladies category and was the fifth fastest time in combining men and ladies and Harold Richins managed to finish with the 15th fastest time out of 88 competitors in the Sports Division.

Dan Erickson and Hugh MacCinnes also placed well for the TRU team, which was close to six seconds off the second-place team of Tourism Sun Peaks. Anne Terwiel, who teaches in Tourism Management, coached the TRU Team, and competed as well as a member of the Sun Peaks Sports School team, coming in a close second place in the Ladies category and 14th overall in the Sports division.

Three Olympian and World Champions, Nancy Greene Raine, Steve Podborski, and Kathy Kreiner-Phillips, helped support the event as coaches, encouraging racers and providing ski-racing tips to all of the contestants.

Both Steve Podborski and Nancy Greene Raine hold Honorary Doctorate Degrees from TRU. Podborski will serve as chef de mission for Canada at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014.

TRU received strong recognition over the two-day event and funds raised from the silent auction and overall event will help support the Sun Peaks Health Association, the RIH Foundation and Sun Peaks junior ski racing.
