Thompson Rivers University Athletics along with the office of the Vice-Provost, Students is coordinating an event for TRU First Year Students (FYS) during the homeopeners for the TRU WolfPack women’s and men’s volleyball teams on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Tournament Capital Centre
The women’s match starts at 6pm, with the men at 7:45pm.
First years students to get VIP treatment
Besides a chance to wear the Back the Pack t-shirts they were given during September’s Orientation, the 1,162 first year students who participated in Orientation are being treated as the night’s honoured guests.
Food, Big Mac Eating contest and more
TRU’s First Year students not only get into the matches for free on Nov. 6, but will also receive free pizza, snacks and beverages.There will be a First Year Students Big Mac Eating contest (the event is sponsored by McDonald’s)
Great giveaways are scheduled for during the break and The Raiden Tailko Drummers will be on hand to drum up support for the hometown WolfPack.
More than just food and prizes
However, the evening isn’t just about food and prizes.
According to Peter Hilton, TRU Vice Provost Student the special night is all about connecting with first year students and making sure they are aware of the supports in place for them to realize they are part of the TRU Community. “Our First Year Students have been at TRU for approximately two months,” said Hilton. “Friday night will be a great opportunity to see the home team in action and for the students to connect with the staff and volunteers that deliver the services on campus that will make their transition to university successful.”
