Thompson Rivers University has received its largest single gift to the House of Learning from the Stollery Charitable Foundation.
The pledge of $300,000 will name the House of Learning’s largest classroom. The announcement by Janet and Spencer Bryson was made Tuesday at the TRU Donor and Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.
“We really respect Thompson Rivers University and the work that the people there are doing,” said Spencer Bryson. “On behalf of The Stollery Charitable Foundation we are pleased to be able to support the continued growth of the university by pledging $300,000 to the new library.”
“Janet and Spencer Bryson have been strong champions for the House of Learning and other charitable projects around Kamloops, ” said Christopher Seguin TRU Vice-President Advancement”. Their continuing support during times of economic uncertainty serves as a beacon of leadership to other organizations and donors.”
Robert and Shirley Stollery, Janet Bryson’s parents, founded the Stollery Charitable Foundation in 1994. They believed it was important to give back to the community that had helped them achieve success. Today’s announcement was the second gift to TRU made by the Stollery Foundation. In November 2006 a donation of $50,000 to the TRU Foundation established an endowment with funds going annually to students in financial need.
The $32 million LEED House of Learning is currently under construction on the Kamloops campus with completion expected for October 2010.
