Dr. Julie Drolet, Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work and Human Service at Thompson Rivers University launched her new book, Women and Micro Credit: Women’s Experiences in Cairo, Egypt at the Kamloops Women’s Resource Group Society.

The book explores women’s experiences in a micro credit program in Cairo, Egypt, in order to contribute to the growing debate on women’s poverty reduction and empowerment potential. Based upon original research in Cairo, the book examines women’s experiences through a conceptual framework that includes women’s triple roles, women’s practical and strategic gender needs, and empowerment.

Prior to her appointment to the faculty of TRU, Dr. Drolet was a Research Fellow at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She is involved in a number of research initiatives and projects with the International Association of Schools of Social Work, Canadian Association for the Study of International Development, and Centre for International Social Work in India.
