This weekend’s Cariboo Skills competition saw 85 youth from 13 schools vie for top place in six different trade categories at Thompson Rivers University.
All competitors at the regional level received a t-shirt and certificate of participation. The top three in each contest were awarded medals, while the gold medalist earned the right to compete against other regional secondary school winners at the provincial BC Skills competition on April 16 in Abbotsford.
Ralph Finch, TRU Dean of Trades and Technology and David Twynam, TRU Dean of Tourism announced these medal winners on March 8.

- Silver medal: Collin Walker, Salmon Arm Secondary.
- Bronze medal: Jamie Thompson, Princeton Secondary.
Cabinet Making
- Gold medal: Levi Pawliw, Eagle River Secondary, Sicamous
- Silver medal: Justin Stuart, South Kamloops Secondary.
- Bronze medal: Craig MacKay, Westsyde Secondary.
Carpentry
- Gold medal: Mike Gatey, South Kamloops Secondary.
- Silver medal: David Smith, Peter Skene Ogden Secondary, 100 Mile House
- Bronze medal: Matt Leclerc, Peter Skene Ogden Secondary, 100 Mile House
Culinary Arts
- Gold medal: Kalena Clark, Valleyview Secondary.
- Silver medal: Justin Fraser, South Kamloops Secondary.
- Bronze medal: Chris Franke, Valleyview Secondary.
Electrical Wiring
- Gold medal: Jared Gagnon, South Kamloops Secondary.
- Silver medal: Curtis Hampton, South Central Interior Distance Education School (SCIDES)
- Bronze medal: James Reid, Westsyde Secondary.
Welding
- Gold medal: Dustin Eliason, South Kamloops Secondary.
- Silver medal: Shawn Thomas, Westsyde Secondary.
- Bronze medal: Orrin Nevins, South Kamloops Secondary.
As well as the schools listed above there were competitors from Pleasant Valley Secondary, Columneetza Secondary and Clearwater Secondary.
