The Thompson Rivers University Cultural Events Committee is presented the comedy of TJ Dawe on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the Independent Centre in the Campus Activity Centre. Admission is free.

Dawe takes the title for his show from the men’s and women’s magazines, and “riffs hilariously on the ‘gross generalizations and insulting stereotypes’ that comprise the age-old battle of the sexes” according to a Toronto Star reviewer.

“Don’t be fooled when it gets down and dirty, and the language descends into four-letter territory. Dawe has plenty to say in his near-staccato style that’s worth hearing.”

Dawe has toured the fringe festival circuits numerous times and toured extensively throughout North America and Australia. He received a Jessie Richardson Award for Best New Play or Musical in 1998 for Tired Cliché’s. In 2001, he received the “Just For Laughs” Comedy Award in Montreal for The Slipknot and performed at the Just for Laughs on the Edge series, which also featured Scott Thompson of the Kids in the Hall. Winner of the “Best Male Performer” award at the 2002 Orlando International Fringe Festival, his solo shows are influenced by Spalding Gray, Daniel MacIvor and George Carlin. He has frequently been likened to Lord Buckley, Jerry Seinfeld and Eric Bogosian. Although he uses elements of stand-up comedy, his shows are very theatrical, exploring serious subjects and using music and physical theatre.
