UCC Features, Fetes, Honorary Degree Recipient

KAMLOOPS-Kamloops author Joan Weir, who will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from UCC at its Convocation Ceremonies this June, will be featured along with two other writers at a free public reading Wednesday, May 26th, from 8:30 to 10:00 am in Room 108 of UCC’s Arts and Education Building.

The author of 17 novels and 6 non-fiction works, Weir will read from her works, discuss the writing process, and be available for book autographing. She will be joined by UCC Writer-in-Residence Jodi Lundgren, author of the novel Touched as well as numerous shorter works, and Karen Hofmann, a UCC Creative Writing faculty member who has had fiction and poetry published in a variety of literary and general interest publications. After Weir’s feature performance in the morning, she will be feted by friends, colleagues and admirers at a luncheon in her honour in the UCC Horticultural Gardens from noon to 2:00 pm. The luncheon, MCd by Western Canada Theatre’s David Ross, will feature an organic lunch provided by the Smorgasbord restaurant and live music sponsored by the UCC Dean of Arts, consisting of a trio including Annette Dominik (violin), Jane Phillips (cello) and Naomi Cloutier (piano). This event is open to the public, and tickets may be purchased for $15 from bookie’s, Merlin Books, Movie Mart, the Smorgasbord, David Ross, or Ginny Ratsoy.
