Assistant Professor Silvia Straka of the School of Social Work and Human Service, Faculty of Education and Social Work, has recently published a new book chapter. Co-authored with three colleagues, Straka’s chapter is entitled “Transforming social work education through sharing circles with Indigenous/Non-Indigenous faculty/staff” and appears in International Indigenous Voices in Social Work (M. A. Hart, A. D. Burton, K. Hart, G. Rowe, D. Halonen, and Y. Pompana, Eds., 2016). The book came out of the Second International Indigenous Conference in Social Work, which took place in Winnipeg in 2013; Straka looks forward to co-presenting at the Fourth International Conference in Winnipeg this fall on her project on Indigenous Aging. The conference brings together a wide diversity of Indigenous Social Work scholars from a broad range of countries.
