HLSC 383 is a required course in the B.S.N. program. The concepts studies include:
Global Health
• Human rights and health (UN, WHO, Millennium Development Goals)
• Emerging trends and issues – poverty, literacy, ecological issues, gender equity, living with chronic illness
• Environmental issues
• Nursing and health care in other countries
• Disaster planning
• Pandemics
• Emergency preparedness – natural disasters, multiple traumas
• Psychosocial considerations
• Spiritual considerations
Non-nursing students are permitted to take this course provided there is available space and participants receive approval from the faculty teaching the course. Non-nursing students should seek permission from their faculty to use this course as a transfer credit to their program.
