KAMLOOPS–What do you want to see happen at Thompson Rivers University during the next decade?

Thompson Rivers University wants to hear from everyone in the communities it serves. President Brett Fairbairn’s Envision TRU project is opening the doors to the people of Kamloops and Williams Lake so they can share their thoughts and ideas about the university’s future.

This 10-year vision will become a map for TRU’s priorities. Already, on-campus consultations have resulted in thousands of comments and ideas being compiled. But the university does not exist by and of itself, and that is why stakeholder groups and citizens at large are being asked for their input and thoughts.

The first consultation is set for Williams Lake, followed by three sessions in Kamloops:

• Tuesday, July 9, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Pioneer Complex, Room 119, 351 Hodgson Rd., Williams Lake
  
• Wednesday, July 10, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Desert Gardens, 540 Seymour St., Kamloops
  
• Thursday, July 11, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Brocklehurst Activity Centre (Centre for Seniors Information), 9A 1800 Tranquille Rd., Kamloops
• Wednesday, July 17, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Desert Gardens, 540 Seymour St., Kamloops

President Fairbairn is scheduled to be at the July 11 consultation. He is hoping to attend some of the other sessions, as his schedule allows.

Background:

Envision TRU was launched in March 2019, to create a vision for the university’s next decade.

Phase 1 consisted of input on broad topics, which was done between March 1 and June 30. The consultation has moved into phase 2, with a focus on specific topics, that ends on Sept. 30. Phase 3 will involve input on top themes and is happening from Aug. 1 to Dec. 16.

Phases 4 and 5 are being done in 2020. Phase 4 will involve input on draft priorities and key elements of the vision from Jan. 15 to Feb. 17. Phase 5 brings Envision TRU to completion with the launch of the final priorities and the final vision by April 30.

TRU is seeking as much input as possible. This includes students, faculty, staff, stakeholder groups and individual citizens, so that the university’s final vision reflects the hopes and aspirations that are suited to TRU and the communities it serves.
