This winter, invest in your leadership potential by enrolling in one (or two) of TRU’s newest course offerings: ORGB 3750 Creativity and Innovation & MNGT 4720 Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Dr. Andrew Fergus is the instructor for both classes, and he is welcoming all upper level students from any faculty with an interest in these topics.
In ORGB 3750 Creativity and Innovation, students explore the theory and practical strategies for promoting creative and innovative thinking in the workplace and managing employees through these processes. Topics include types of innovation, the S-shaped diffusion curve, generating new ideas, recognizing opportunities, moving innovations to the market, creative groups, enhancing creativity, and leading creativity. The course is being offered Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:00-5:15 pm.
MNGT 4720 Negotiation and Conflict Resolution is designed as a hands on course with students involved in many actual negotiations. The course introduces students to the fundamental theories of negotiation and develops the essential skills required to be a successful negotiator. The negotiation process is pervasive in business and the ability to negotiate is an essential skill for successful managers. Topics include the nature of negotiation; strategy and tactics of distributive bargaining and integrative negotiation planning; integrative negotiation; negotiation, planning, and strategy; perception cognition and emotion; communication and the negotiation process; power and negotiation; and ethics in negotiation. This course is scheduled to run Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:30-2:45 pm.
Dr. Andrew Fergus is an Assistant Professor in the Management Department and holds a PhD from Haskyne School of Business, University of Calgary. He is the Chair of Thompson Rivers University’s Research Ethics Board.
