The City of Kamloops and Thompson Rivers University have signed a Memorandum of Exploration regarding possible future uses of Stuart Wood Elementary School by TRU.
Announced on the steps of City Hall on Oct. 3, 2014, the two organizations will look at the possibility of a partnership that would involve the elementary school. While there are no expectations as to the outcome of the study, both partners recognize the historical significance of the building and its impact on the downtown core.
“This is the beginning of a process where we will have a chance to examine the building, consult with our students, faculty, and staff and look at the possible academic uses of this facility. This will give us a chance to see if there is a fit for us in this Kamloops landmark,” said TRU President, Alan Shaver.
“The former school is an excellent facility and of great value to not only the downtown, but the city as a whole. This exploration presents an opportunity for our strong partnership to continue to build our community,” commented Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar.
