CiCAC welcomes Alex Janvier as artist-in-residence at TRU from Oct 4-25. Made possible through a research grant through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission research department and TRU’s Graduate Student and Research office, Janvier’s residency is the first of its kind at the university. One of Canada’s foremost painters and a founding member of the legendary ‘Aboriginal Group of Seven,” Alex will be converting the TRU Art Gallery into a working studio from Oct 4-25, and he will also host classes in this studio and participate in numerous events around campus.

On Friday, Oct 7, at noon, Janvier will talk about his work alongside Jaime Black, who will discuss her REDress project on the missing and murdered Aboriginal women, and Jaimie Isaac, who curated a project on the history of the ongoing colonization of Aboriginal people in Canada.

This will be open to students, staff and faculty from the university and the wider community, and we look forward to having you all there.

The residency is supported by CiCAC, a Truth and Reconciliation Commission research grant, and the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, TRU.
