TRU Actors Workshop Theatre schedule 2011-12

2011-12 live theatre schedule at TRU as presented by the TRU Actors Workshop Theatre.

2011-12 TRU Actors Workshop Theatre lineup:

A Midsummer Night’s Dream — William Shakespeare,
directed by Heidi Verwey, October 26-29, November 2-5.
The course of true love never did run smooth…
Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a timeless tale of love, dreams and identity – with a dab of supernatural magic for good measure. Full of rich characters and fascinating plot twists; this invigorating and riveting play is one of the Bard’s finest and most accessible comedies.
TRU’s Fall 2011 production updates the locale but keeps the original lyrical language intact. Come join Puck, Bottom, the Lovers and the fairies in the surreal high school of the near future.
Lord, what fools these mortals be!

Christmas Unwrapped — by collective creation,
directed by Robin Nichol, December 8-10, 15-17.
“Christmas: Unwrapped” is a collective creation. In this long standing and successful performance tradition in Canadian theatre, a group of student and alumni actors will work together to create a piece.  The centre will be a series of true personal stories about the season written and performed by the actors but, until rehearsals begin, the rest of the show remains a mystery.  There may be music, dance, acrobatics or underwater ballet!  Come see this world premiere and get an unusual take on the holiday season.

Death of a Salesman — by Arthur Miller,
directed by Jim Hoffman, March 1-3, 8-10.
Traveling salesman Willy Loman suddenly arrives home after an alarming car trip. His wife Linda is deeply concerned, for he has had a series of accidents, possible suicide attempts, symptoms of the death of his career and his hopes for a better life for himself and his family. The complete title of the play is Death of a Salesman: Certain Private Conversations in Two Acts and a Requiem, referring not only to the death of the main character, but also to the dark side of the American Dream. This great classic of modern American theatre asks us to consider Willy Loman as a figure of significance, perhaps even nobility: “A small man can be just as exhausted as a great man….”

Directors Festival — repertory shorts, student directed, April 5-7, 12-14.
The 13th Annual Directors Festival showcases senior level acting students presenting dramatic and comedic playlets directed by program directing students. The shorts are presented in repertory format on alternating nights. These theatrical variety shows have proven both entertaining and thought provoking over the years. Come out and see what these fledgling stage directors have in store!
