Flu Clinics on campus

Below is information related to on-campus flu clinics. There is a free one for those who qualify and a pay clinic for those who don’t qualify for a free shot.

For those that qualify for the free vaccine, TRU’s Kamloops campus will be offering a flu clinic on: Wednesday November 10th between 8:30 am – 2 pm in the Science Building. (S330) NO appointment necessary

For those that do not qualify for the free vaccine, TRU’s Kamloops campus will be offering a fee for service flu clinic on: Tuesday November 16th between 2:00 pm -3:30pm in the TRU Medical Clinic. (OM 1461) NO appointment necessary

If you do not qualify for a free vaccine, please pay $15.00 AT THE CAMPUS CASHIER AND BRING YOUR RECEIPT TO THE DOCTORS’ OFFICE – OLD MAIN 1461 – before Monday, November 8th 2010 to ensure we have enough vaccine on hand.

This year’s vaccine contains three different flu strains, one of which is the pandemic strain that circulated last year:

●A/California/7/2009(H1N1)-like virus

●A/Perth/16/2009(H3N2)-like virus

●B/Brisbane/60/2008(Victoria lineage)-like virus

High Risk – Free Vaccine

In British Columbia, the influenza vaccine or flu shot is provided free to the following groups of people:

  • People at high risk of serious illness from influenza:Children 6-23 months of age
  • Pregnant women who will be in their third trimester during the influenza season
  • Seniors 65 years and older
  • Residents of any age living in residential care, assisted living or other group facilities
  • Aboriginal people
  • Children and teenagers taking Aspirin® or ASA for long periods of time
  • Children and adults with certain medical conditions including heart or lung disorders that require regular medical care, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or cystic fibrosis, kidney disease, chronic liver disease including hepatitis, diabetes, cancer, anemia, or weakened immune systems
  • Those with health conditions causing difficulty breathing, swallowing, or a risk of choking on food or fluids, including persons with severe brain damage, spinal cord injury, seizures or neuromuscular disorders
  • Those who are very obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more
  • People able to transmit or spread influenza to those at high risk of serious illness from influenza, including:Household contacts of people at high risk
  • Household contacts, caregivers and daycare staff of children under 24 months of age
  • Doctors, nurses and other care providers who work in hospitals, residential care, assisted living or other group facilities
  • People who live or work in confined settings, such as correctional facilities
  • Those who provide care or service to people at high risk in potential outbreak settings, such as cruise ships
