TRU Journalism Faculty awarded prestigious fellowship

Thompson Rivers University faculty and School of Journalism Chair Dr. Maxine Ruvinsky has been awarded a Jack Webster Foundation Fellowship to attend the Poynter Institute in Florida.

“I’ll be learning to shoot and edit video, to build multimedia slide shows, and all kinds of stuff about online resources in the classroom, ” said Dr. Ruvinsky. “I’m pretty stoked to be able to take these courses and to be able to bring these sought-after skills back to TRU journalism students.”

Ruvinsky will take Multimedia Journalism for College Educators, at the Poynter Institute in StPetersburg, Florida, July 20 to 23.

Jack Webster Foundation co-chair, Debora Sweeney announced more than $22,000 in funding for 2009 recipients of the JWF Fellowships.

“To date, the Jack Webster Foundation has supported 40 BC journalists with professional development programs and 20 additional BC journalists who have participated in our CIDA-sponsored Seeing the World through New Eyes program,” Sweeney said. “It’s a privilege to support BC journalists in Jack Webster’s name and to provide unique opportunities to enhance their education and experiences.”
