The Government of Canada will invest $8.288 million in campus infrastructure and the House of Learning, triggering an additional $2.5 million of new provincial funding for infrastructure.

Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, announced $5.85 million towards TRU’s House of Learning signature building project, the 63,000 square foot LEED Gold designed library and learning commons, as part of the Knowledge Infrastructure Program.

“Thompson Rivers University is an essential part of our community.It is important to me, as your federal representative, to be able to contribute to the growth and development of this outstanding educational facility,” said McLeod.

“We are delighted to welcome the Government of Canada to our family of donors to the House of Learning; this stunning and iconic building will make our community, province and country proud, ” said Dr. Kathleen Scherf, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor.

In addition to the funds for the House of Learning, MP McLeod confirmed $2.438 million in federal funding for campus infrastructure, along with $2.5 million from the province.

“We are extremely excited to be recipients of the Knowledge Infrastructure ProgramThe new renovation money from our provincial and federal governments will create new jobs while upgrading our campus facilities, and advancing our technology services, ” Scherf added.

“This investment is part of the federal government’s two year, $2 billion plan to repair and expand research and educational facilities at Canadian colleges and universities,” said McLeod. “I’m so pleased that Thompson Rivers University received funding today from the Knowledge Infrastructure Program.”

The $4.938 million funding partnership between the Government of Canada, Thompson Rivers University, and the Province of British Columbia will provide repairs to the roofs of five buildings, and upgrades to TRU’s largest instructional building, Old Main, which opened in 1971. The funding will also go towards the purchase network switches and core routers, which will quicken research communication and presentation, speed while offering better response capabilities.
