Thompson Rivers University Vice-President and Provost, Dr. Mark Evered has been named as the new president and vice-chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley. The announcement of Dr. Evered’s appointment was made Dec. 10, to an audience of UFV faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends in a packed gymnasium at the university’s Abbotsford campus. Dr. Evered will replace current UFV President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. H. A. ‘Skip’ Bassford in July 2009.
“Mark’s four years here at TRU have been extremely productive; he has been absolutely central in UCC’s transition to TRU, and is the architect of our university governance structure,” said Dr. Kathleen Scherf, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor. “I know all of you join me in congratulating Mark on this wonderful position. It’s a pleasure to know that at TRU, we grow Presidents.”
“I have enjoyed my time at TRU, and that I will continue to enjoy it,” Evered said in an email to the TRU Community. He regrets that he will not have more opportunity to work with TRU’s newly installed President and Vice-chancellor Dr. Kathleen Scherf. “This is an opportunity I don’t want to pass up. My gratitude to all, and I very much look forward to the partnerships and joint projects that will develop between TRU and UFV in the future.”
“Mark is coming to UFV at the perfect point in our evolution,” says Rod Thomson, Chair of the UFV Board of Governors. “Not only does he thoroughly understand the legacy of this university, but also what we need to do to improve on our already impressive results. His personable and consultative style, impressive academic background, extensive administrative experience, and deep commitment to student success will serve UFV well.”
