TRU’s Alumni Association announced its 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients at a media conference Oct. 14.
This year’s winners will receive their awards at a President’s Reception in their honour scheduled for later the same day.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards program recognizes graduates and faculty of TRU who have made outstanding achievements in a variety of fields such as academic achievement, arts and culture, professional achievement, community and public service, and the vital role that TRU graduates play in the social and economic lives of communities, cultures, and countries. Over the past 10 years, 34 graduates have been selected to receive the award.
“The Distinguished Alumni Awards program offers an exciting opportunity to honour deserving individuals, and bring attention to the vital role that TRU graduates play in the social and economic lives of our communities,” said Nancy Plett, Executive Director of the TRU Alumni Association.
A call for nominations is made in the spring and names are submitted to the awards committee, made up of representatives from the Alumni Board and other graduates. The committee reviews the candidates and selects the award recipients based on the award criteria.
“I look forward to the distinct pleasure of hosting the President’s Reception tonight, where I will present Distinguished Alumni Awards to six very deserving individuals,” said Roger Barnsley, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor.
“The outstanding community contributions and professional achievements of our graduates, combined with teaching excellence, continue to help our university build a distinguished reputation throughout our region and around the world.”
