KAMLOOPS – It’s a landmark event for BC and the public is invited!
Thompson Rivers University will mark its beginning and future as BC’s
newest provincial university with activities on March 31st, April 1st
and 2nd, and there are lots of events the community can join in on.
On March 31st, people are invited to view the Academic Procession, in
which professors, dignitaries and other invited guests will parade
through campus in full, colourful regalia, starting at the UCC Trades
& Technology Centre at 9:30 am.
After a stop for the Convocation Wall Dedication, the procession will
end up at the Gymnasium for the Inaugural Convocation, which will
include the installation of our first Chancellor, Nancy Greene Raine
and Dr. Roger Barnsley as the President and Vice-Chancellor, the
granting of TRU’s official Coat of Arms by the Chief Herald of Canada,
“greetings” from representatives of other institutions and words from
several dignitaries. Limited tickets for this event are expected to be
available to the public by March 23 on a first-come, first-served
basis at various campus locations. It will also be webcast.
At 2:00 pm, the public is invited to attend the Official Opening of
the new International Building, followed by tours, refreshments, and
various performances throughout the afternoon.
On April 1st, the public is invited to get involved in a Community
Dialogue entitled TRU-Thinking About Our Future beginning at 8:30 am
in the Campus Activity Centre that will engage all in discussions on
the future of our new university. Those planning to attend the
“Dialogue” event are asked to email their intention to
astrachan@tru.ca to ensure sufficient space.
A TRU Beginnings Kick-Off Celebration for the public, cosponsored by
the Foundation and Alumni Association, will be held in the Grand Hall
starting at 5:30 pm on Friday, April 1st. The evening will feature 20
different exhibitions of TRU programs and special projects during the
