Update: Mandatory retirement was ended at TRU in 2007.

KAMLOOPS – The University College of the Cariboo and the UCC Faculty Association have signed a Letter of Understanding that authorizes exceptions to the UCC mandatory retirement policy. The agreement allows eight faculty employees to continue working past age 65, until July 2006.

Roger Barnsley, UCC President, stated “I’m pleased with this agreement as it provides the opportunity for valued employees to work beyond age 65.”

Tom Friedman, UCCFA President added “This agreement is good for the institution, allowing individuals at the height of their careers to continue contributing actively to UCC, especially during this critical transition period as we move to university status.”

Friedman said that this agreement meets the needs of his members and indicates a very positive willingness on the part of the UCC Board and administration to work cooperatively with the Association on a challenging issue.

“This resolution bodes well for all of us during a time when UCC will be undergoing some fundamental changes and when faculty and administrators need to continue to build an atmosphere of collegial cooperation,” Friedman added.
