Join Dr. Judy Duchscher, associate professor of nursing, for this dynamic discussion on “What school doesn’t teach you: Transitioning from student to professional” in the casual atmosphere of Red Collar Brewing Co., 355 Lansdowne St.
Duchscher’s research explores the reality of moving from the role of student to professional, specifically within the healthcare field, but this presentation will reflect a more broad understanding of the challenge people face when entering their chosen profession. It can be difficult to find a balance between the ‘ideals’ taught in university, and the ‘realities’ of the contemporary workplace. This lack of balance results of a difficult transition from academia, and in nursing alone, between 33-61% of new nurses report changing their place of employment or leaving the profession entirely within the first two years.
Dr. Duchscher will be joined for this presentation by Andrea Burrows, Regional Practice Leader, Research and Knowledge Translation, Interior Health.
To help celebrate TRU’s 50th anniversary, we have launched Tap into Research, a series of dynamic mini lectures by academics in the tasting rooms of our city’s craft breweries and coffee houses.
These meet-ups are an opportunity for everyone to learn about cutting-edge research taking place in Kamloops.
Tap into Research events are every two weeks, so stay tuned for the next event.
