Orange Shirt event

Please join us in front of the Campus Activity Centre to remember and honor residential school survivors. This event is dedicated to the 215 children at the Kamloops Indian Residential School who did not make it home. There will be guest speakers from T’kemlups te Secwepemc, residential school survivor(s), traditional drummers and singers. Social distancing and safety measures will be followed. Remember to wear your orange shirt. 

Here is the event schedule:

Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Welcome/opening prayer by Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Elder Doe Thomas; Secépemc welcome song, TRU Chancellor Nathan Matthew, TRU President Brett Fairbairn, Special Advisor to the President Paul Michel, Office of Indigenous Education Tina Matthew.

12:30 to 1:15 p.m.: Special guest speaker Rose Miller on the 215 children buried at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

1:15 to 1:45 p.m.: Drumming and songs.

1:45 to 2 p.m.: Closing prayer.
