Meet the world

TRU is a tapestry of cultures. As one of the leading destinations for international post-secondary students, we welcome over 1,750 students from more than 75 countries to campus each year. Our diverse community is the most visible aspect of internationalization at TRU, but we embrace intercultural understanding and global citizenship across teaching and research, and offer unique opportunities for students as well as faculty and staff to meet the world on campus and abroad.

Information and support

Living and studying in a new country is as rewarding as it is challenging. Whether you’re an international student at TRU, or a Canadian student spending a semester or two studying abroad, you’ll receive encouragement, resources and guidance from TRU staff to make the most of your international experience.

Coming to Kamloops? Our support network—from our International Students Advisors (ISAs) to academic advising and career planning—is here when you need it. The friendly and helpful staff at International Admissions will ensure you receive timely and detailed information for your application to TRU. And our ISAs provide guidance about student life at TRU both before your arrival in Canada and during your program—in several languages. The ISAs also help coordinate housing, orientation and settlement services. International Academic Advisors will help you plan your program, and work with you to make the most of your education at TRU.

If you’re considering Study Abroad, attend an information session. You’ll learn everything you need to know to apply and prepare for an amazing semester overseas, including tips from our experienced Study Abroad Ambassadors. Also check out the wide variety of field school opportunities—open to both domestic and international students.

Intercultural understanding

Numerous events at TRU highlight the many cultures on our campus, celebrating diversity and providing opportunities to increase your intercultural skills. TRU’s biggest—and oldest—tradition is IDays, which combines great speakers on global issues with cultural performances and exhibits, international research, workshops and information sessions, food from around the world, and the popular International Showcase. See the Events Calendar for many more opportunities to meet the world on campus.

The TRU International Student Activity Program (ISAP) ushers international students into Canadian culture. Meet Canadian students and experience Canadian customs. Explore four seasons of outdoor adventures, the vibrant culture of Kamloops and this beautiful region of British Columbia by participating in ISAP events. Domestic students welcome—join in and meet students from around the world.

Global citizenship

Make the intercultural skills and knowledge you acquire through courses, club or event participation, research, co-op, volunteering or study abroad into an official credential on your transcript. TRU’s unique Global Competency certificate allows you to earn formal recognition for intercultural and international experiences. Domestic and international students can participate, in tandem with any credit program at TRU. Become a globally-minded citizen—take part in meaningful intercultural experiences on campus, in the community and abroad.
