Join Dr. Deborah Zornes, Director, Research Services, Royal Roads University, and President of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) for a workshop and round-table discussions that explore the changing research funding landscape in Canada (morning), with an afternoon workshop designed for early-career researchers (ECRs).

Part 1: Research Funding in Canada

This presentation will focus on the funding landscape in Canada, and is designed to be useful for all faculty and research administrators. The presentation will highlight:

  • Changes at the Tri-Agencies, including:
    • New Frontiers in Research Funding program
    • SSHRC programs, including Insights/Insight Development, Partnership and Connection
    • NSERC Alliance
    • CIHR programs
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion — EDI action plans for the CRC program; EDI in research design and HQP training
  • Building or expanding a research program and how to best bring resources to support the program including a discussion of non Tri-Agency funding
  • Partnerships and collaboration
  • Timing and staging (publications, KM activities, HQP)
  • Research services
  • Research and Data Management (RDM) and open access
Part 2: Early Career Researchers

These round table discussions will focus primarily on tips for ECRs and is meant to continue discussions from the first session (Part 1 – Research Funding in Canada).  Topics include:

  • Timing and staging – seed funding, mentorship, publications, dissemination
  • How to best utilize the time available for research
  • Tips and insights that go into a successful proposal development
  • Partnerships and collaboration
  • Importance of feedback
  • Research Services
