Interior Academic Health Science Centre consultation

In February 2018, a meeting was held in Kelowna to discuss the possibilities of establishing an Interior Academic Health Sciences Centre (IAHSC). The Centre would involve TRU, Interior Health (IH), the University of British Columbia Okanagan and the University of British Columbia Southern Medical Program with the goal of creating enhanced opportunities to collaborate and elevate the tri-partite mission of clinical care, education and research on a greater scale to improve the health system in the Interior.

A complementary meeting was held at Royal Inland Hospital in April 2018, co-hosted by TRU and IH, to explore a health research agenda for Kamloops and to consider an IAHSC. Following that meeting, an exploratory committee was struck that has commissioned a study to identify potential directions and highlight key decision points. The Draft Development Plan outlines frameworks, options and opportunities for an IAHSC.
