Capital Projects Planning Advisory Group (CPPAG)

November 8, 2016

Dear TRU Community,

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Capital Projects Planning Advisory Group (CPPAG). This group will provide recommendations to the president on which capital projects should be included in TRU’s Five-Year Capital Plan, based on TRU’s strategic priorities for:

  • creating new space for students, teaching and research
  • reducing deferred maintenance
  • improving sustainability

Each year, TRU is required to update its Five-Year Capital Plan for the Ministry of Advanced Education (AVED). The plan normally includes three to seven capital projects and forms the basis for capital funding asks from AVED. A critical goal of the Capital Projects Planning Advisory Group will be to add greater strategic planning, communications and collaboration to the process of identifying future capital projects. This is also to ensure TRU’s funding requests to the province satisfy the above priorities and are well-received by AVED.

Projects funded by AVED from the previous Five-Year Capital Plan include the Old Main redevelopment and the upcoming Industrial Training and Technology Building, which received funding approval in July. Remaining on the current plan is the proposed Nursing and Population Health Building.

CPPAG members will meet to begin developing recommendations towards the 2017-2022 Capital Plan on Nov. 7. The updated plan is due to AVED in the early spring of 2017.  Moving forward, the capital projects strategically selected and put forward in the Five-Year Capital Plan will guide the short- and long-term space planning decisions of TRU’s Space Management Committee.

We look forward to involving the TRU community in this process.

Kind regards,

Matt Milovick, Vice-President Administration and Finance
