Staff and faculty: Their reasons to saddle-up for 2016 Bike To Work Week

May 27, 2016

Caitlin Johnson

Another Bike To Work Week is rapidly approaching and we thought a fun way to keep you motivated would be for some our TRU staff and faculty to share why they are riding this year.

In addition, did you know the Office of Environment and Sustainability has organized TRU’s participation and in doing so, has some free events planned for the week of May 30 to June 3? The events are intended to add a little fun and socializing to the week, and who knows, maybe connect you with new riding buddies.

You can join sustainability’s online team and log your kilometres towards the team total. By joining, you also have a chance at prizes, including Bike to Work Week BC’s grand giveaway of a cycling trip for two to Vietnam.

Something new sustainability is launching this year is Bike To Work Month. Join the challenge and you could land yourself a prize to go with your stronger legs and improved cardio.

I ride my bike home from work as often as I can as it is a great way to wind down after work.

It is the best de-stressor and makes me feel fantastic.

Participating in Bike To Work Week is a great way to promote healthy living and to encourage my co-workers to saddle-up and enjoy their commute through our beautiful campus and community.

Bicycling has so many benefits. A short commute from my downtown home is good for my body, mind and soul.

The bicycle is a beautiful machine.

When I ride my bike I feel free, happy, strong. I notice flowers blooming and the wind on my cheeks.

Cycling is fast, cheap, fun, environmentally friendly and makes my butt look great.

I participate for fitness, making friends and to stay healthy.

Bike To Work Week is more than just biking to work, it is a social experience that is fun, interactive and brings people together.

Bike riding makes me feels great—I feel like a kid.

It’s awesome for the environment, is fast, it means parking is free and close and keeps my buns of steel, well, steely.

I ride to work for the exercise, the environment, to help make biking “normal” in our community, and the bike rack is closer to my office than any parking spot on campus.
