Support the arts with a night of music

April 21, 2016

Whether you’re a jazz lover or have a taste for local spirits, the TRU Foundation’s annual Music in the Round event has a little something for everyone.

The annual fundraiser takes place Saturday, April 23, in one of TRU’s hidden gems, the Iving K. Barber BC Centre. The intimate setting boasts unique acoustics that are hard to find anywhere else in the city with all proceeds going the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music (KISSM) and TRU student awards.

“I love that this event is a relationship between the Faculty of Arts and KISSM,” said VP Advancement, Christopher Seguin. “The connection to the arts community is what makes this event something really special.”

Headlining this year’s event is Latin jazz guitarist John Gilliat who holds technique and emotion in a melodic balance that will have the audience in the palm of his hand. Following Gilliat will be a performance by Mo Jazz, a versatile jazz combo covering several styles with each band member bringing his own influence to the mix.

The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour featuring local wine and beer from supporting sponsors Harper’s Trail and Red Collar Brewing Co. and the sounds of the School District 73 jazz band. The show gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
