Cohord Mason has been recognized as one of the top six undergraduate microbiologists in the country.

The Canadian Society of Microbiologists has awarded Mason with a CSM Undergraduate Award, one of six presented this year. The award recognizes outstanding promise in an undergraduate student for their early career contributions to microbiology and is meant to encourage continued interest in microbiology.

Recipients also received a cheque for $500.

“This award is a great reflection of what TRU is great at and known for, and that’s preparing grads who are capable of going on to the next step,” said Mason, who graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Science in cellular, molecular, and microbial biology.

He is now taking courses to become a medical lab assistant with the goal to be accepted into medical school.
