TRU Students Place First at 2015 CPA Case Competition

2015 CPA Case Competition

Congratulations to 3rd year accounting students Sydney Heichert and Faline Lidstone who won the 2015 CPA Case Competition.

The competition involved 17 teams from universities in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The teams were given 24 hours to evaluate a business problem and to give a presentation analyzing the problem and making recommendations for improvements. The first round was an online competition, with the top six teams being invited to Winnipeg to participate in a face-to-face final round. Thompson Rivers University’s team placed first, Okanagan College placed second, and the University of Alberta placed third.

TRU’s coaches included accounting lecturer Tony Bell, and several TRU alumni: Robbie Tallon (BDO), Tasha Baziuk (Tenisci Piva), Jeff Kent (KPMG), Katelin McNichol (KPMG) and Jeromy Spence (KPMG).
