Green Dream Home a shining example of interdisciplinary studies at TRU

July 13, 2012

The Green Dream Home that had design and construction input from TRU students and faculty, continues to be held up as a model of excellence for its innovation and collaboration. This time the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation is applauding the project from 2010 through a promotional video that’s 2:28 in duration. The Green Home not only proved a valuable hands-on learning experience for students, but was a shining example of interdisciplinary studies as students had to incorporate green initiatives into the design and construction. Why was this so?

The project’s mandate was to be net zero energy consumption, or in other words, save as much energy as consumed. Not always an easy thing to do, but with a little research, collaboration, innovation, and ingenuity, the feat was accomplished and continues to this day. In the video, hear from the homeowner how power consumption has been reduced.

The Green Dream Home, located in Sun Rivers in Kamloops, BC was built as the grand prize for the 2010 edition of the YMCA/YWCA Dream Home Lottery. It is a two-story detached home of 3,237 square feet, with a an attached garage, and finished walk-out basement.
