Posing for a group photo is some of the more than 70 students who recently completed leadership certificates.

Thompson Rivers University congratulated more than 70 students who have completed either the Personal Leadership or Community Leadership Certificate and those who did both.

Students were treated to a breakfast on Jan. 13, 2012 prior to receiving the credential and posing for photos.

Personal Leadership Certificate
To earn this, students attended five workshops that allowed them to explore their strengths, values, leadership style, goals, and to improve their presentation and communication skills.

As, well, students were asked to volunteer at TRU or in the community. A total of more than 1,100 hours of volunteer service was provided by the students over the Fall 2011 semester.

Community Leadership Certificate
Students attended three workshops exploring community and global issues and contemplated how they will make a difference in their communities.

Students in this certificate also worked as a group to fill close to 90 backpacks with warm clothing, toiletries and non-perishable snacks for the ASK Wellness homeless count in October.

Workshops included in the program
Each workshop is about three hours in length. Read the descriptions for Team Building, Group Facilitation, Motivating Others and Building on Group Diversity, Conflict Management and Problem Solving, Public Speaking and Preparation for Group Presentation.

More opportunities
Students wishing to continue their leadership skills development this semester can apply to participate in the Team Leadership Certificate. This free, non-credit certificate is open to all TRU students.
