UCC Students to Receive Major Scholarships this Week

January 10, 2005

KAMLOOPS – The standards are high, and these students have met them. On
Tuesday, January 11th at 4:00 pm at the Accolades dining room located
in the UCC Food Training Centre, four UCC students will receive
Millennium scholarships, while three others are presented with UCC
Ambassador’s Entrance Scholarships.

The UCC Ambassadors Entrance Scholarship, an open scholarship
available to first-time students who have not previously attended
college or university in Canada, recognizes academic excellence,
leadership and community service. Students who receive this award,
which requires at least an 80% average, also accept the responsibility
of some level of participation in representing UCC at specific
activities during the academic year.

The Millennium Incourse Scholarship, created by the federal
government to provide opportunities for Canadians to learn, grow, and
contribute to their communities, requires students to excel in four
areas: academic achievement, community service, leadership, and
innovation. The Millennium Scholarships were created in three tiers
and are adjudicated in-house before being forwarded to a federal
committee for final approval. Three UCC students qualified for
third-level scholarships, a one-time award of $4000, while a fourth
student qualified for a second-level scholarship, worth $4000 a year
for two years.
